How to buy a UK used laptop safely
1. Match the specs to the price
Generation matters more than the i5/i7 label. An 8th-gen or newer Core i5 with 8GB RAM and an SSD often beats an older Core i7. Ask for the exact model and generation.
2. Check the battery and charger
Ask for battery health (on Windows, run 'powercfg /batteryreport'). UK used laptops often need a new battery, so factor that into the price, and confirm the charger is original.
3. Test everything in person
Check the screen for dead pixels, every keyboard key, USB ports, webcam, speakers, Wi-Fi and the hinge. Let it run for 15 minutes to see if it overheats.
4. Confirm it isn't locked or stolen
Make sure there's no BIOS password or company management lock, and that Windows is activated. Ask for a receipt from the seller.
5. Pay with No Wahala Escrow
Don't send full payment before you've received and tested the laptop. With escrow, the money is only released to the seller once you confirm it's as described.
